Nice trek through time. I remember some of those hideous fashions. The color combinations were brought tears to the eyes, they were so painful. At the same time you saw underwear ads that were way more racy than anything seen today in mainstream media. And the dialog with some of those ads! I was old enough to realize there was a whole different conversation going on beyond the word level, even if I didn't know what. I remember those magazines, too. They were often mixed in with the 'international' section. So if you wanted to pick up the Manchester Guardian it was really easy to accidentally (without quotes, lol) grab a copy of Blue Boy as well.... which I did once. What shocked me was that that particular issue was full of college aged, waxxed & plucked guys.... and I just thought 'Why? Why not real men with muscles and hair?'

Fashions and fantasies are often best seen in the rearview mirror. Not all, but quite a few. :-)

Ohhh Clint you've excelled your rummaging through your ephemera file on this one. I can hear your imagination if YOU had had to add the the dialogue to those locker room conversations of guys discussing their choices of underwear ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Nice you added playwright Joe Orton, his life was self feeding his destruction. His works all very quirkily British and the films of his life/works are very watchable. Cheers DougT ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ด BTW it's a very cool/cold 66f or 19c here today, just thought you would appreciate it after your LA hot weather ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Glad you enjoyed my ephemeral deep-dive. There might be more. I enjoy them so. As for narrations, I prefer to let the images (and the order) do most of the talking. lol

As for weather, I woke up to a brisk 59F this morning. After almost a week of 100F+ days, itโ€™s almost a shock to my system. But Iโ€™ll adjust. Happily. :-)

I recall the Madras fabric craze. Even KEDS made a sneaker in Madras. Their tag line "it bleeds" referred to the mark of authenticity by having the vegetal dyes bleed from washing.

I sorta remember some of those from when I was a kid. Fashions are always interesting to look back on. Hard to believe some of them ever happened. :-p

I read some STH books when I could get them, but that was...later. When I was still living at home, I pretended to be interested in surfing so I could buy the magazines, because...surfers! I suspect I wasn't fooling anyone who didn't want to be fooled.

Love it! Surfers are definitely worth paying attention to. ๐ŸŒˆโœŒ๏ธ
