This afternoon, I’ll walk through the front door of a house I’ve called home for the past twelve years. One last time.
I’m meeting with my landlord for a final walkthrough before handing over the keys.
For me, it’s more than the end of a lease. It’s the end of an era.
“Little House On Pine Crest” has been the backdrop to some of the best and worst moments of my life. Within its walls, I’ve laughed, cried, created, collapsed, and come back to life more times than I can count.
LHOPC has been a sanctuary and a prison, a launching pad and a crash site.
Throughout the move-out process, I’ve been reminded how lucky I am to be held up by a motley crew of generous, kind, and patient people.
I’ve needed a lot of love and support during this move. And so many of you have helped steady me when I wasn’t sure I had the strength to keep going. To those who’ve checked in, offered encouragement, or sent good vibes—THANK YOU!
But there is one person, in particular, I need to single out and reflect some of his bright light back at:
Drew. My best friend of thirty years. The one who always shows up. The one who never lets me drown. The one who saves the day—again and again—without ever asking for credit.
I count myself among the luckiest of lucky men to have you in my corner…and my life:
Dear Drew,
You have carried me through so many storms, and this move is just the latest. For a man of so many words, your generosity and graciousness leave me at a loss for words. But, as usual, I’ll keep trying to find them, yapping away in the wind, like a dog on linoleum.
I honestly don’t know how you put up with me and my shenanigans. Or how I would get through this thing called “life” without you.
One door closes today. And another one opens. Today marks the official beginning of my next chapter. I can’t say exactly what the road ahead will look like, but I am excited to find out.
What I do know? I’m ready to get back to work. For those who’ve been wondering, new montages will be coming to both Substack and YouTube next week.
Whatever this next chapter holds, I won’t be walking into it alone.
Thank you for being a friend!

I had the same feelings leaving my home of 16 years in SF.
I had provided hospice care for friends there and had memories of the love of my life there.
The door closed and I moved on. It's just a fancy box. You can find other fancy boxes to call home.
Plus:
The termites were enjoying the place more than I was...
A year ago this Saturday I sold my house and moved into an apartment that has turned out to be an amazing place to live. Enjoy your new home!
