Not surprised. No one seems be able to explain what they can/can’t do. Or how they “learn.” The magic sauce may indeed be evil. It’s definitely troubling.
First, loved the Tviet song. More important, Don't know where we will end up, but I am among those who think AI is dangerous at best and the end of honesty at worst. Already we simply can not trust what we see and hear. When tech can get so good that we can't tell the difference between real and fake, it is the end of civilization some time down the road. I've got my fingers crossed that we will regulate AI adequately and soon enough to combat this, but I am not very confidant that we will accomplish this.

It’s already hard to tell the difference. So I’m doing my best to clearly mark when I use it…to re-AImagine vintage photos. Some folks don’t like it, but I think it’s a relatively harmless way to pay homage to those who came before us. That’s my intention anyway. Fingers crossed clearer and smarter brains than my own will find common sense guidelines and regulation for this Wild, Wild West dumpster fire.
I fully agree. In fact I love the way you are using it. No one would ever think that the video was anything other than AI. When that is the case, I love what AI can do for us. Sadly, I also think that it is or will be used far more often to achieve nefarious results.
I’m with you, Clint.... the hysteria around AI is wild. It’s not the end of the world or the birth of a new god like you said. I do think the deeper tension comes from how fast it’s moving, and how few people really understand what’s being traded in the process. As a gay, latino person who works in tech, being on these meetings talking about it is dizzying. Watching decisions that impact our environment, our attention, our creativity being made by people chasing profit, not progress and sometimes at the cost of peoples rights, attentions, etc. Energy use, data scraping, mental fatigue...they sort of feel like collateral in this new gold rush.
So yeah, the hysteria is real for sure. I’m not scared of AI itself. I’m scared of what we’ll lose if we keep letting money / profit outrun meaning of a technology that has the potential to transform us.

In my previous life, I worked for a bunch of entertainment and tech giants…pushing pixels and making visual sense of some of those messy meetings. I do not miss that bullshit.
