Several friends are thinking about starting their own Substack and/or YouTube channel and have all asked me the same question: How do I do it?
My answer is very, very simple: Just Start.
Not when you have the perfect camera. Not when your branding is airtight. Not when you know how to do it all “right.” Start where you are, with what you have, and let the rest figure itself out in motion.
To help nudge them (and maybe you) get started, I’ve been pointing folks to videos like the one above by Ty Myers, my newest straight-guy-on-the-internet crush. So handsome. So smart!
Watching creators like Mr. Myers is a reminder that everyone begins somewhere awkward, imperfect, and unseen. The magic doesn’t happen before you start. It happens because you start.
Your first video probably won’t be great. Neither will your second. Or maybe even your tenth. But those aren’t failures. They’re part of the process. Momentum is built by showing up, not by waiting for permission or applause.
So if you’ve been sitting on an idea, a channel, or a side hustle, this is your sign to:
Hit record.
Post the thing.
Learn as you go.
It’s never too late.
But it is later than yesterday.
Keep calm and get busy!

Hi Clint, I have one question and one recommendation.
First, the question: How did you decide to make YouTube your primary platform and not Substack?
Second, the recommendation: Based on what you shared about imperfection, authenticity, and priorities, there is one short book I’d recommend to you.
The Way of Trust and Love by Jacques Philippe
