Yesterday, I did a few things that did my body, mind, and soul good:
Took literal and figurative inventory of my Shop, Substack, and YouTube channel.
Took the afternoon off to enjoy a long, luxurious nap.
Took Mr. Hutchinson’s advice and watched Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood. (Thanks, David!)
While the first is specific to me and my work, the other two I would recommend to anyone. Especially the 2018 doc about Scotty Bowers and his days as Hollywood’s most-trusted trickster.
Talk about a great story and emotional rollercoaster. Scotty Bowers was a modern male update to the classic hooker with a heart of gold story. And his laissez-faire attitude about gender, sex, and sexuality—no labels, just “Scotty”—is a refreshing reminder that the ongoing controversy and debates about gender and sexual identity are (in my opinion) mostly performance art by reactive activists and “squares.”
After taking stock of my online sites and spaces, I was reminded me of why I started this creative journey in the first place: to share art, photos, and stories that deserve to be seen and remembered.
Which brings me to one more thing I finally did yesterday: Over the past few weeks, I’ve been collecting and curating some new classic art and vintage photos that are now available in the Shop. Works by Thomas Eakins as well as some images from my personal collection of vintage photography.
These works capture frozen moments and untold stories that, to me, align with my mission to preserve and share LGBTQ history through art, photography, and video.
To celebrate these new works, I’m offering 20% off everything in the Shop through this Substack-exclusive link (thru 10.02.24).
(Note: The promo code should apply automatically at checkout. If it doesn’t, please enter SUBSTACK20 manually. Technology…mostly works as intended, right?)
It’s my way of saying THANK YOU for being part of this journey with me.
Once you’re done browsing the Shop, please consider taking a nap and/or watching something inspiring. Maybe add a little history to your art and photo collection too.
Thanks for reading and subscribing!
Clint
P.S. If you see an art print you like but would rather have a t-shirt, mug, or some other product, don’t hesitate to reach out (via DM or email). I’m happy to add more options.
